RE: Camping with a dog . . . is it hard to do

We got our B just so we could travel with the pups. Just love having them with us wherever we go! Though, the double bed is getting a bit crowded with the 4 of us, especially as the young pup grows! We camp mostly at state parks and have never had a problem. Even at a few national parks, it's been fine. Congrats on the new dog!! He's a cutie! http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295886033_QxDxt-L.jpg http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295896668_jP63P-L.jpg

RE: Any Volkswagen Campmoblie Rvers?

Also check out Westfalia.org. They have a great forum for Westy owners.

I'll have to check out the group... I have an ol' '87 Xtravan.

RE: What is the "doghouse" of a van?

It's the inside cover to the engine bay.... that big bump between the driver and passenger seats.

RE: Fantastic Fan Questions

Maybe Ms"B"Haven would prefer this fan so that if you left the vent open in the rain she wouldn't get her insides wet. We absolutely love our MaxxFan here in rainy ol' Oregon. It was the best replacement for the very old, broken bladed Fantastic Fan that originally came with the van. I've left it open most of the time, even in the rainy season just to ensure there's fresh air in the van.... never gotten a drop of water inside.

Bessie Lou... said it one day and it stuck.

RE: Hobbies and other interests

A few hobbies.... Photography (mostly dog and people portraits and abstracts), poetry, music, song-writing and recording (I play guitar, sitar and hand-percussion), modding and racing my 05 Mustang (a little six-banger that does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and a 13.0 second quarter mile.... hope to hit 12's soon), playing with and training my two doggies, meditation and spiritual teachings, movies, computers (Mac geek here) and camping, of course.

RE: What lawn chair fits you and your Class B?

We have two of the folding canvas bag chairs with cup holders. They store nicely, stacked on top of one another to save space, under the rear bed (which we leave up permanently). I really fell in love with this type of comfy chair when I first bought one years ago. We have about a half-dozen of them, but only bring 2 in the B. BTW... I've also become fairly adept at getting the chair back in the bag with a minimum of swearing. :p I'm also curious to find a lounge type chair that's very space efficient.

RE: Rear Seats for 87 Xplorer Xtravan

I have an 87 Xplorer Xtravan... it originally came with 4 captain's chair... driver, passenger up front and 2 passenger seats behind them. Though, ours had the 4th seat removed and replaced with a counter top and swing out table. The rear has a dinette that converts to a bed... no seat belts back there. I don't know where you'd find replacement seats, but I'm sure someone on this forum has some ideas.

RE: Bessie Lou tours Oregon (lots of pics!)

That was very nice. Thank you. Can't wait to get there. But I have to say, I totally cracked up when I saw the pic of the pup....head on paws...bit of tongue lolling out. Tooooo funny!!! :) Yeah, isn't that funny? She's a very silly doggie! Really sweet seeing that little B all by itself next to the river. I could stay in a place like that for weeks. Great pictures and sounds like a great trip. I wish I could have camped next to the John Day River. That was just a roadside lunch break. The pic next to the smaller creek.... that was a campsite about 10 miles off any main road. I just loved falling asleep to the sound of the water out the back door! Great pics, thanks for sharing. Eastern Oregon was a surprise to us the first time that was drove through. I love Oregon, you can go from high desert, to breathtaking mountains, to coastal views - all in one day. That is what I enjoy about Oregon... in a matter of a couple hours you can be in a completely different land!

RE: Bessie Lou tours Oregon (lots of pics!)

Great pictures... I didn't even know that Oregon had desert!!:C Yes... you get over the mountains and there are plenty of deserts. For awhile, I was pretty far south, in the Outback of Oregon, which I didn't know existed!).... no civilization for miles and miles!

Bessie Lou tours Oregon (lots of pics!)

My wife is back east visiting family, so decided to load up the B, grab the pups and go on a roadtrip. I've lived in Oregon since I was 3 and still have not seen all of it. I set out to explore areas that I've never seen. After 5 days, I'm back, refreshed and ready to go on the next outing! Before going, I had done a couple of upgrades to my 87 Xplorer Xtravan. Ever since replacing the 2-barrel carburetor last year, there have been some odd problems. After have several mechanics look at every system imaginable, and it was determined that it was the new carb. Instead of wasting more money on this part, I decided to have a 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold installed. Bessie Lou is running great now and probably picked up 30 hp. Very handy up the hills! Instead of explaining my travels, I thought I'd let a few pictures, from a B's perspective, do the talking.... Oh... btw... I boondocked the entire time, even when staying in state parks. I have over 100 pics online. PM me if you'd like the link... Just on the other side of Mt. Hood... getting into the desert. http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295885944_DXJJK-L.jpg Fort Rock http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295887437_wn9Dy-L.jpg A small bit of Fort Rock http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295886530_qD5Kj-L.jpg Near Fort Rock http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295887233_Hqqbn-L.jpg My favorite camping spot http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295888372_Pvtm2-L.jpg Sofie and Chaya http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295886033_QxDxt-L.jpg Somewhere in the mountains http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295892408_pCbv9-L.jpg Granite, Oregon http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/295891493_SzuQw-L.jpg Trying to find a non-existent campground that was on the map... busted a latch on the closet door on this excursion! RE: Smallest Window A/C Unit

Looks like a swamp cooler that you fill with ice. Not a real A/C. But, not do a pinch if you're sitting in front of it! Latest Cabela's ad had a small portable for $79. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20075-cat280029&id=0053085518260a&navCount=1&podId=0053085&parentId=cat280029&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat280029&hasJS=true http://images.cabelas.com/is/image/cabelas/s7_518260_imageset_01?$main-Medium$

RE: 33 days in a B! Leaving in a couple weeks

Looks nice and roomy! That's a great idea for the generator mount.... far less obtrusive than a hitch mount solution. Looking forward to hearing about your travels!

We have an older rig too... an 87 Xplorer... though we've only had it less than a year, we love it! I couldn't image trading it in for much else. http://hamidlmt.smugmug.com/photos/267027311_EMKDN-L.jpg

Lots of good info on the topic in this previous thread... http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/16909305/srt/pa/pging/1/page/1.cfm Before we found our 87 Xplorer, I was researching doing a westy type conversion on a Chevy Astro/GMC Safari.

RE: B-sized microwave

I saw the I-wave this weekend at Sharper Image in a mall in Louisville, KY. I didn't check their website, but it may be available there too. Seems like $199 was about right. It's only $130 + shipping from Skymall. What were your impressions of the iWave? Big enough to be useful?

RE: B-sized microwave

I think the OP was from someone who uses a micro mostly for nuking coffee or other cup-sized objects, and prefers a eensy-weensy micro. I just thought the small footprint and low power draw would be of interest to some with a class B. Personally, I think it to be a tad too small to be terribly useful, but it might be the perfect size for others. I would like to gave a plug for the Sanyo SK-VF7S Convection Oven/Toaster. For the past year I have been looking for a very small oven for my Roadtrek 190. The Sanyo is the smallest convection oven I have been able to find. As a convection oven it can bake a small pizza, corn bread, bake a chicken. As a toaster it can toast up to 4 slides of bread at one time. I have found it to be a great little oven for its small size. Don Don... that Sanyo convecdtion oven/toaster looks to be quite compact and very versatile! That will go on my short list!
